I was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago and while I lived elsewhere for school and travel for some years, I have returned to the area that never really left me. I received my M.A. in Photojournalism from Ohio University in 2009, though my primary interests are steeped in contemporary interpretations of landscape and portrait photography. My work often addresses the conflicting notions I have about the suburban landscape and cultural norms that accompany it. I am a runner by habit, and the wandering nature of the run tends to be the spark from which most of my work begins.
I am engaged to a wonderful woman named Liz, currently in medical school, and she helps keep me grounded and motivated, and puts up with my consistently wandering dialogues about art, the environment, fitness, policy and purpose in the few waking hours that she's not in clinical rotations (12 hours a day, 6 days a week).
