I am a photographer (and sometimes writer) in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Lately I have been focused on small and local landscape projects, as well as along photographing the southwestern shores of Lake Michigan where I regularly visit. I also photograph my family and my home. 

I spent years working as a freelance photojournalist and magazine photographer, and my project work has been featured in National Geographic, Time, The New Yorker, Phaidon and other publications. I have worked on assignment for publications like The New York Times, The Guardian and Bloomberg Businessweek. I have worked commercially work for Herman Miller, Crate and Barrell, Nike and others. I also occasionally exhibit work and have shown in the Catherine Edelman Gallery and the Ackland Museum of Art. My books are held in collections at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the University of North Carolina and others.

Outside of my projects, I have worked to found Sleeper.Studio and Basement Art Space. In the past I have also taught, lecturing on both art photography and photojournalism at The University of North Carolina, Chapel-Hill and Ohio University. Most recently I was a 2023-2024 Knight-Wallace Fellow at the University of Michigan.

Please take this website as more of a current sketchbook, less of a portfolio, if such a thing is even relevant anymore. I am always adding new work and editing old work, as well as reconsidering which pictures I show. I have a large archive of work and I am always trying to climb out from under the piles of pictures and words I have accumulated, trying to piece them together in new ways or decide if they are best consigned to the past.
