In 2010 an editor from the Wall Street Journal called me and asked me to go to Greenville, Michigan to take a look at the new Unisolar Factory - or United Solar Ovonic. The small town had been reeling from the closure of the Electrolux factory years prior, and was looking towards solar manufacturing as a way to provide local jobs - which it did, to an extent, for awhile (Unisolar eventually shuttered a few years later). The effort was backed by the Meijer family - a local school covered its roof with the panels. Still, from my brief observations, the factory was largely automated and void of human activity save for cubicles and computers. Whatever the real situation, what I saw didn't make for much in the way of photography despite my best efforts. I stayed in town for some extra time, just to walk around and meet some people. These pictures are mostly from that.
