In 2006 I traveled with a group of University of Illinois undergraduates on a service project. Our job was to help build a school, and do a bit of sugarcane harvesting in the village of Gualapuro, Ecuador, which is an Andes mountain village near the town of Otavalo. I stayed in the home of the Saransig-Moran family who had four children, the two youngest - Juan Gabriel and José Luis - of which I spent time playing soccer and exploring the mountain paths with, and sometimes photographing.
