On a cold morning in late February of 2015 I spent time at the Horween Leather Tannery, the last working tannery in the city of Chicago. Founded in 1905, it is the producer of the footballs you see on Sunday games and of Chromexcel, a leather reputed for its water resistant and aging properties that is widely used in shoes, boots and jackets.
