The Great Imitator
(2025)

In collaboration with Dr. Rachel Bergmans at the University of Michigan's Medical School, we phorographed volunteers in the Metro Detroit area who had been impacted by lupus in various ways, whether it was a life altering diagnosis or watching a loved one live with the disease.  They spoke about their experience navigating what lupus brought, whether that was in dealing with the health care system, mourning loved ones, or adapting to a new way of living.

The photographs are from brief encounters with people involved in Dr. Bergman's research and the reporting and interviews are her contribution. Select images from the project were printed and paired with people's stories at the Lupus Conference in Detroit in September of 2025.

The work also served as the foundation for an Op-Ed Dr. Bergmans wrote for Time, where some of the photographs were featured.

The project and uses of the work are ongoing.
